BCFSS Monthly Meetings

WHERE & WHEN:

Bucks County Folk Song Society holds its regular monthly meetings at

Wrightstown Friends Meetinghouse
PA Rte 413 (Durham Rd.)
Wrightstown, PA

The meetinghouse is on the west side of the road, just south of the intersection with Penns Park Rd. It's about 3 miles north of Newtown and 1 mile south of Rte. 232. For an interactive map, click here: Map to Meetinghouse.

Meetings are normally held on the first Sunday of every month, but occasionally switch to the second Sunday when the first is on a holiday weekend. Check the calendar to be sure.

The festivities begin around 6:30 and end promptly at 10:00pm.

MEETING FORMATS:

  1. Monthly meetings normally begin with one of two musical formats:
    • Circle (usually 20-30 performers, once around) with song/story/dance presentations relating to a predetermined theme. Upcoming themes are listed in the calendar below. Click CIRCLE PHOTO GALLERY for a peek at a past circle meeting.
                                                    OR
    • Featured Performer or series of performers. Performers are usually BCFSS members, but occasionally we feature guests from neighboring societies. All performers volunteer their time and talents. Click FEATURE PHOTO GALLERY for a peek at a past feature meeting, but be prepared for a wait of a minute or so.
  2. Minimal Business Meeting

Doors, Windows & Walls
So many songs have references to windows, doors and walls that this should be an easy one. We probably should have made this three separate themes..

Potluck Supper

Workshop:
Ukuleles by David McCullough
The May potluck is a long-standing BCFSS tradition. Entrees and sides/salads will be assigned alphabetically. A-L will bring entrees. M-Z will brings sides & salads.
Setup will be at 5:30 and dinner will start at 6:00.
David is both a master builder and masterful player of ukuleles, and eh share some of knowledge with us this evening.

Nicknames
Nicknames are very common, but song about them, much less so. But then keep in mind that names like, Jim, Bob, Bill and Charlie are nicknames.

Jewelry/Rings
Gold and jewelry are mentioned in many songs. Sometimes they stolen. Other time awarded. Wars have even been fought over treasures.

August 2, 2026

Fruits & Vegetables
There should be no problem finding musical references to this theme.

Sail Away
There is an endless catalogue of maritime songs in addition to  those who may mention  seafaring activities.

October 11, 2026

Circle:
Wind & Rain
Floods, hurricanes, blizzards, rainbows - all well documented in song.
